Through tumultuous waters, I adapted and charted a new path forward. While it was challenging, it also taught me important lessons about my values and what brings me fulfillment in life.

As the tumultuous year of 2008 unfolded, the real estate market was plunged into chaos. The once-stable ground beneath us seemed to shift, leaving uncertainty and turmoil in its wake. At one point, I had 20 listings, and suddenly, one after another, they began to fall through. For me, this period was not just a professional challenge but a test of my perseverance and character.

Before the storm of 2008 hit, I had built a successful career for myself in the real estate industry. After serving in the Navy and experiencing the structured environment of military life, I started a job at Coca-Cola. However, the demands of the job left me feeling disconnected from what truly mattered—my family. I felt I was missing my kids growing up. Determined to prioritize my role as a father and husband, I took a leap of faith into the world of real estate in 2003.

The early years in real estate were marked by growth and success. I thrived in a fast-paced environment, building relationships and achieving my goals year after year. I didn’t think it could get any better! As the financial crisis of 2008 unfolded, the landscape changed dramatically. The market collapse sent shockwaves through the industry, leaving many struggling to stay afloat.

In the face of adversity, I refused to be swept away. Leveraging my experience and expertise in real estate, I sought out opportunities to collaborate with banks and lending institutions. Through networking and building relationships within the industry, I positioned myself as a trusted partner capable of navigating the complexities of distressed properties and foreclosure proceedings. This proactive approach ultimately led to partnerships with banks, paving the way for me to become deeply involved in managing foreclosed properties and assisting banks in mitigating losses.

It was a challenging time, marked by difficult conversations and emotionally taxing negotiations. Unfortunately, working in this sphere was often a thankless job. There were so many foreclosures and so many devastated families. At one point, we were so busy that my wife, Stefanie, joined me for several years to help manage the workload. Even though we were doing financially well through this period, the work lacked the passion and fulfillment I craved. This period taught me a lot, not only about navigating complex transactions but also about what I valued in the work I did.

When the market began to stabilize, once again, I was ready to pivot. This time, I knew I wanted to return to my roots, working directly with clients and helping people use real estate as a valuable tool in wealth building. Stepping into a new chapter, I redirected my focus to working with buyers and sellers, specializing in helping investors with fix and flips. Once again, I could create a fun and enjoyable experience for my clients. It is here, amidst the hands-on work and personal connections, that I find true fulfillment.

Today, as I look back on my journey, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the resilience gained. Each challenge has strengthened my resolve and shaped my approach to both business and life. At the heart of everything I do has always been a drive to be there for my family and provide. Many of my clients are trying to do the very same—these shared family values are how I connect with and build lifelong relationships with the people I serve.

When I'm not working, I love taking my hot rod out for a drive or attending hot rod events. Another passion of mine is brewing beer and customizing the bottles, which I give to friends, family and clients. I’m also very passionate about supporting the Fresno Bully Rescue, with two rescued pit bulls of our own, Jaxon and Stella. My wife and I also enjoy heading to the coast to camp and spend quality time with our kids.

The Great Dane pays homage to my grandfather's proud Danish heritage. My grandfather always referred to himself as a proud Dane, and everything from his boat's name to his professional licenses bore the imprint of this heritage. Creating The Great Dane REALTOR® brand is not just a name but a legacy of pride, integrity and family heritage that I incorporate into my real estate business. Treating my clients with the same care, respect and advocacy that I would treat a family member with, I hope to make every client’s experience one to remember!

With 20+ years of experience in real estate, I believe in prioritizing people over transactions. To me, real estate isn't just about buying and selling properties; it's about building meaningful connections and delivering exceptional service. Throughout the transaction process, I deliver a hands-on service, taking care of whatever my clients need to ensure a smooth buying and selling experience. My focus is to ensure my client's satisfaction and peace of mind.

By making the process fun and enjoyable, I want to build lasting relationships with my clients!

Sincerely,

Chris Cissel
